i wonder sometimes how bad off i'd be if i got connecticut yankee'd and had to speak my ancestors' english. then i scrolled this post, struggled at the 14th century, and totally choked at the 13th. i'm pretty sure "deorcnesse" is "darkness"--that's about all i'm sure of. the beowulf-era stuff is right out

hopefully the time machine accident takes me no earlier than the 16th century
